best and worst ever West Ham managers?
who was worse Avram Grant or Glenn Roeder as our manager?? both were appalling in my opinion however at least Roeder made a couple of good signings so it has to be Avram in my opinion as our worst ever manager, was there a more terrible manager appointed during our glorious history?

the best in my time has to be John Lyall, in your opinion was there anyone better as manager in our history fellow WHO-ers??

Worst manager has to be Avram Grant who gets it over Roeder as both were terrible but atleast Roeder gave a sh1t about the club!

Best John Lyall, but have to admit had a lot of enjoyment watching the games in the Redknapp years!

Best has to be Lyall on trophies and highest league place.

Won't be popular but Redknapp from the time he signed Hartson and Kitson through to selling Rio was a 'triffic' era.

Worst: Grant for me...put out the worst West Ham teams I've ever seen.

I totally agree, we've always had moronic supporters who turn on our own. Even Greenwood and Bonzo were turned upon.

Most damaging Redknapp

Most frustrating Greenwood

Best Lyall

Best could have been Sir Trev

Worse Curbishley

Most pragmatic BFS

In truth we have not been blessed on the manager front over the years

Re: best and worst ever West Ham managers?
Grant had inherited a poor squad which had recently survived relegation under Zola.

Roeder relegated a side brimming with talent which Sir Trev was almost able to turn round.

Glenn Roeder was the worst ever West Ham manager.

The best has to go to Ron Greenwood for the legacy he set up

I think when you look at the squads available you'd have to say Roeder was the worst. He took us down with Di Canio, Joe Cole, Sinclair, Defoe, Johnson etc. Fuck knows where we would have ended up if he had the likes of Kovac and Piquionne at his disposal.

Re: best and worst ever West Ham managers?
In my time I would say the best was Redknapp. I was young when Lyall was in charge so i cant give an honest opinion on him

We played good football, we had our Golden Generation from the academy, he made some great signings like Di Canio, Kanoute and Trevor Sinclair. He was always wheeling and dealing, so transfers were always exciting times.

The worst has to be Roeder. He inherits that Golden Generation, we had great players, doesnt win at home for 7 months and gets us relegated. On paper that team should have been in the top 5. Best team ever to have gone down.

'Physically sick'? Really? Man the fuck up

Seriously though, that stick was intense, and something a lot of people seem to forget/deny happening. Well it did, and fucking massively

I remember being physically sick at Lyall's treatment in 1989. Shocking way to treat a bloke with his record at the club.

Re: best and worst ever West Ham managers?
Agree with many on here that John Lyall is the best and Glenn Roeder is the worst though Grant is very close behind.
When I think of the Hammers Lyall springs to mind he may not have always got it right but his philosophy (Ron Greenwood) is what we can never in my mind walk too far away from even though Allardyce has tried very hard to do so he must now see the Happy Hammers beaming with the almost over night change of style and system to a more attacking style.
